Bryngwyn Quarry proposal goes to Public Enquiry
An application to open a 'Dormant' quarry in Gwernymynydd near to Mold has gone to a public enquiry.
Earlier last year, quarry owners D.P. Williams (Holdings) Ltd. submitted a planning application to re-open the BrynGwyn Quarry, which has lain dormant for over 30 years. This was opposed by local community councils and local residents. Flintshire County Council as Mineral Planning Authority issued a Prohibition order and Gwernymynydd Community Council wrote to all 60 Welsh Assembly members asking for support for the Order. The quarry owners have appealed against this, and as a result, a Public Inquiry was ordered.
The date of the Public Inquiry regarding BrynGwyn Quarry, originally scheduled for January 15th 2008 at Gwernymynydd Village Centre has now changed and has been expanded to a possible four days from Tuesday 26th February at 10:00am
The effect of the Order, if confirmed, will be to prohibit any
development consisting of the winning and working of minerals and/or
involving the depositing of mineral waste at land at Bryngwyn Quarry,
Gwernymynydd, Flintshire.
The DQAG will be watching the case with great interest and we hope that justice will prevail. We must do all we can to prevent the threat of this happening in Rochdale again.
