Bryngwyn Quarry Public Enquiry adjourned

A Public inquiry into the reopening of a village quarry was adjourned today after solicitors representing both sides claimed they needed more time to consider evidence.

Members of the Ding Quarry Action Group travelled down to Wales to Gwernymynydd Village Hall for the start of the Welsh Assembly-led inquiry. We were made to feel very welcome by our friends from Wales who share the uncertainty that D.P.Williams has created in both communities.

The owners of this quarry DP Williams (Holdings) Ltd have opposed a prohibition order, issued by Flintshire County Council last August, preventing them from the working and winning of minerals at the site.

The local authorities declared the quarry dormant back in 1995 as Rochdale council did with Ding.
The Enquiry focuses this time on whether the working of the quarry is likely or unlikely to re-commence.

Williams states he was going to re-open the quarry and therefore the prohibition order does not stand as this is one of the two tests involved.
The inspector Mr Clive Nield will be considering both the Councils views and that of the objector over the next few days before reporting back to the Minister.
