Protestors March from Lanehead to Ding Quarry
Ding Quarry Action Group seeking to ensure their opposition to the re-opening of Ding Quarry remains firmly in the public's mind staged a march along the Cotton Famine Road - over 100 protestors turning out for what was described as an "excellent day".
Setting off at the cattle grid at Lanehead, the walkers enjoyed superb scenery as they walked the three miles to Ding Quarry.
Members of the bridleway group led the way on horseback which forms part of the Mary Townly loop.

Paul Rowen MP who joined us on
the walk along with councillors Peter Clegg, Greg Couzens and Barbara Todd said: “I really enjoyed the walk and also the opportunity to catch up with some of the key campaigners. It is absolutely imperative that we keep up the pressure.
Dave Thomas, Chairman of the Ding Quarry action group said "We wanted to show what a valuable amenity the moor is to the people of Rochdale, not just in terms of how beautiful it is, but in more practical terms of how healthy it is to go walking up there"
Standing on the new access road to the windfarm next to one of the newly errected towers that stand high above Ding Quarry, the supporters take a break before finally heading back down Rooley moor to well earned refreshments back at the Black Dog.
