13th September 1995, our first confrontation with DP Williams. News spread fast, within 20 minutes there were over 100 people gathered at the cattle grid. We made the local news headlines on North West Tonight |

There was no way the lorries were going to get up to the quarry as fast as they thought they would. |

The police read us the riot act, I think they got fed up of us all shouting STOP DING QUARRY !!!!! |

So they arrested the troublemakers... A pensioner, a schoolgirl, and our prospective Councillor. |

So we eventually let them make their way up, it took them 20 minutes to make their way 100 yards to the edge of the moor. |

People, dogs, babies in prams, horses everything kept walking in front of the lorries, they had to keep stopping. I remember the police trying to move that horse, it had a mind of it's own. (you can lead a horse to water......) |
